The value of Interior Design
Interior design affects people all over the world on a daily basis. From your behavior to your feelings or even how you perceive a room, interior design plays a role. It could be the color of a waiting room or the tiles on a bathroom floor that influence how you feel. To the public eye, an individual might not realize how much interior design plays a role in their public life. Individuals often don't think about how the things around them are designed and how much good design is needed. From the way your chair is sloped to where a wall is placed, the design is thoughtful and planned out. An interior designer needs to take into consideration the needs and interactions of the public. Interior design affects people on a personal level because it affects how an individual feels in a space.
There are many needs that concern an individual. An interior designer needs to be able to meet these needs whether they be physical, psychological, or privacy needs. Physical needs could include an individual with a wheelchair. Things like countertops and shelving would need to be placed at a different level than an individual without a wheelchair. Psychological needs could include how the individual wants the space to make them feel when they interact in the space. Privacy needs could include the placement of windows.
Business plays a big role in interior design as well. When a business or large company has an attractive interior that has been designed well, it reflects well on them and is good for business. An attractive interior can draw more customers in and bring back repeat customers, meaning more business. On the other side of that, a workplace that is designed well will save money. When an employee has the right chair or desk, they will be able to work more efficiently and get work done. Interior design plays a big role in the efficiency, lighting, and materials that are used in the workplace.
Interior design is valued on a national level as well. For example, if the national economy is upwards then the earnings and call for interior designers goes up. Having the national economy going up leads to more business for interior designers like larger budgets and more freedom with design. Following the national value of interior design, there is a global value to interior design as well. Among different countries, interior design is valued differently, but the need for it is still there. Design plays a leading role over other fields of business for the global economy. The design field is turning into a knowledge economy, which makes it lead over other more traditional fields of business. A knowledge economy focuses on putting money into more creative fields that are not tangible, like interior design. This is important because if we put more money into fields like interior design, then in turn it will be good for the economy.
Interior design differs in culture and society. This is what makes it so valued is because the different designs reveal to us what kind of culture an individual lives in. Interior design differences across cultures might include the meaning of a color, amount of space needed for different rooms, or locations of different rooms. Designers need to be aware of these cultural differences to really value interior design. Interior design plays a big societal role as well. The societal value of interior design focuses on the big society and future generations as a whole. Interior designing for society includes thinking about the environment and what kind of foot print the design will have.
